January 2015, the first "Gonggeng College - Chen Qigang Music Workshop" was held at Gonggeng College in Huang Ni Ling Village (Suichang, Zhejiang Province, China).

Gonggeng College, wedged between hills and waters, away from downtown, commits to public welfare education and green planting.

This workshop is a public attempt at music exchange programmes, by interactive discussion about music and composition throughout the week, rather than a normal master class. Students come from all over the world, and benefit from free room, board plus free tuition. 

“In holding the workshops, it’s not our intention to build a mode or standard of composition, but to break the shackles of the established aesthetic, eventually, to create a free, independent thinking space”, said Qigang CHEN.
